Russian President Vladimir Putin’s telephone conversation with President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan

On July 6, 2019 President of Russia Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan at the initiative of the Turkish side.

The Turkish leader expressed sincere condolences over the tragic death of Russian navy officers in the Barents Sea.

The parties voiced mutual concern over the escalation of the situation in Libya. They stressed the urgent need for a ceasefire and a resumption of the negotiation process.

In addition, the two leaders underscored the importance of stepping up political and diplomatic efforts on a Syrian settlement, including within consultations in the Astana format.

It was agreed to maintain contacts at different levels.
