Ambassador Aleksey Erkhov’s address to the readers of Hurriyet Daily News

On October 29, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Turkey, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation Aleksey Erkhov addressed the readers of Hurriyet Daily News:

I am very glad to address the readers of Hurriyet Daily News on the 100th anniversary of the Republic of Türkiye. This very important day is the symbol of the victory of Turkish people in the struggle against foreign invaders for national independence, for the right to exist as a sovereign state. During that difficult period my country lent a helping hand to the Turkish people: it was the first to recognize the government of the young Turkish state and provided military, technical and financial assistance. Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, an outstanding reformer and a great friend of Soviet Russia, used to say: “This nation has never lived without independence. We cannot and shall not live without it”. And let it be so! On this meaningful day I wish the people of Türkiye peace, prosperity and the power to resist to any pressure coming from outside.
